For a quick summary of the questions, please find them below:

SUMMARY OF WEEKLY QUESTIONS

  1. Select one of the articles considered on Tuesday (“College Women: Stop Getting Drunk” by Emily Yoffe or “Stop The Boats, Once And For All” by Ben Pobjie). Write a critical response to the article that brings together all the points brainstormed on Tuesday. [WEEK 2]
  2. Construct a critical response to Chris Fotinopoulos’s article “Why choice is central to dying with dignity” published 13 February 2015 in The Canberra Times. [WEEK 3]
  3. When it come to rhetoric, is what you say or how you say it more important? Why? Provide reasons with reference to the discussion and texts analysed during the week. [WEEK 4]
  4. Consider the extract responding to the question: “How can I know (perceive with certainty) anything at all?” What do you think? Do you agree/disagree with the above statement? Do you think it’s possible for us to know anything at all? Why/Why not? [WEEK 6]
  5. Consider Plato’s theory of Forms. Do you think this applies to people? Do you think everyone is a mirror of their “true self” and the ultimate goal in life is to become more us? Do you think we can only REALLY know ourselves by trying to identify our true form? [ WEEK 7]
  6. Consider Descartes’ argument: cogito ergo sum. Evaluate his argument. In your response, consider what we have talked about in this class about whether we can ever really know anything. (ie. Do you think we can know that we are thinking?) Could this argument be applied to other people? Can we ever know other people exist? [WEEK 8]

Remember! You must answer ONE question from Q1-3 and ONE question from Q4-6.

Don’t hesitate to get in contact with Kim (Kimberley.Hare@ed.act.edu.au) or Zid (Zid.Mancenido@ed.act.edu.au) if you’re thinking: “whatttttt?”
